Flashing Installation

Your heating appliances and chimney make up a system all their own, but they’re also part of a bigger system: your home. Your chimney and your home have some connective joints that bring them together and make them vulnerable, if not maintained. Case in point: the place where your chimney and roofline meet. Flashing is installed at this meeting point to ensure that water stays out of your chimney and out of your home. Damaged or missing flashing means vulnerability to water — something we definitely do not want.

More About Chimney Flashing

before and after flashing chimneyFlashing is generally made of sheet metal, lead or copper, and consists of two main parts: step flashing – shaped like an L and integrated in with the shingles; and counter flashing -which is layered over the step flashing and embedded into the masonry.

The step flashing keeps the area where the chimney and roof meet from taking on rain; the counter flashing keeps rain from getting behind the step flashing. Together, those two parts make for an effective barrier against water.

That said, flashing can take on damage. Heavy wind can pull up edges and loosen or pull off flashing; the metal itself can sustain damage from the elements or animals; caulk around the edges can come loose. Damaged flashing can allow water to then damage your roof, your chimney, your attic, ceilings and other areas.

Every chimney is unique and flashing installation is detailed, custom work that needs to be done by a professional. We can custom design and install flashing that suits your chimney and your home.

Don’t Call A Roofing Company

If you think there might be a problem with your flashing, don’t reach for your roofing company’s number — call A-1 Chimney Specialist. We respect and have great relationships with many roofing companies in the area, and when we see a problem that requires roofing expertise, that’s where we turn. But flashing is a part of the chimney system, and we install and repair flashing every day. When there’s a problem, we’ll know how to find it and how to fix it correctly and durably – it’s our expertise.

If you see a problem with your chimney flashing, or have a leak and think your flashing might be part of the problem, call A-1 Chimney Specialist or click here to schedule online. We have been repairing and installing flashing in the Tullahoma and Winchester, Tenn., area since 2000, and we want to help make your chimney as strong and waterproof as it can be.

  • review rating 5  A1 came out to sweep and inspect our chimney, as well as put a screen over the chimney opening. The guys that came out were fantastic!! They were so kind, friendly, and very professional. I was comfortable with them in my house, and they did a great job. They explained everything to me, and joked with my kids. We’ve already recommended them to other people and it’s only been 10 hours since their visit! We’ll definitely use them every time we need chimney services.

  • review rating 5  I can't say enough good things about this company. The men came to clean our chimney (which badly needed it). They kept the house clean; they were so very polite; they took photos of the chimney. They also checked our dryer vent and took photos of that. We then learned that they service gas fireplaces--and we have been hunting for someone to help us with this. A lovely team. Super professional. It was like having the best doctor make a house call.

  • review rating 5  Not like the cable guys! A-1 Chimney was timely and informative from the start! Phone calls to let you know who, what , when and we’re they were going to be from your scheduled appointment time. Great level of professionalism when they arrived and was knowledgeable of our needs and their solutions. I would highly recommend a small business over the big guys because you are a customer, not a corporate bottom line. As a side note..... good to see a young staff learning a trade. All three of the young gentlemen that were here are supporting that trade. “Ahhh it’s just a fireplace” What do you rely on in a power outage? Emergency heat........... Your fireplace! Thanks A-1..... See you again!

  • review rating 4  Good service but EXPENSIVE. They were prompt and did a good job, but the cost was $40 more than the companies in Nashville.
